Some of those meals we just loved to hate...!

FRENCH TOAST
Can you smell it? I remember walking over the furrow and smelling it. This was not normal french toast this was bread which had been soaked in oil. I'm sure if you picked it up and squeezed it you could get a cup of oil. Yuck!

SUNDAY NIGHT DINNER
Nshima & some sort of relish and of course everyone's weekly dosage of Maloprim (anti-malarial tablet). I recall that often half the dining hall would stand up after grace had been said and walk out. It wouldn't have been so bad if the relishes had been decent. I remember one night that we were given bones - I would have felt bad giving my dog something with that little meat on it...

BREAKFAST
Porridge, 2 pieces toast (burnt) - no such thing as a toaster, these were cooked on the stove, sometimes they had a strange taste of kerosene...
Tea (with 2 cups of sugar) - as the tea already had milk and sugar added you had no choice in the matter. In Form 3 we discovered it was actually survivable if you put a tablespoon of instant coffee in it...hence my caffeine addiction.

LUNCH
Rice, Stew, Cabbage (without fail!) A Sponge cake (though sometimes we got cornflake slice or jelly), Custard - every day regardless of what the rest of desert was

SUPPER
2 slices bread (pre-buttered) - options for spreads: peanut butter, syrup, occasionally jam, something heated - rice cakes, french toast (see above), keish, amongst other things, coleslaw, fruit

MORNING TEA
Tea (see breakfast description), on weekends we got juice! (only time in the whole week) and Sandwiches (fillings included egg, jam, syrup), on weekends we got biscuits!
